My New Year’s Resolution

Posted on

I didn’t have a self-proclaimed New Year’s resolution this year. Not that I ever do, but it’s the thought around the first of the year like, “I have to make this year better!” In all honesty, I worked so hard in 2013 that I didn’t feel like I needed to change much for myself. I wanted to keep on the same track, working hard, loving each day and looking towards God to guide me in the right direction.

So if I couldn’t change something for myself, I was going to help make a difference in someone else’s life. For the past two months, I’ve been making a point to compliment someone once a day via social media. I’ve heard so many people complain about how “social media isn’t your diary!” or “we don’t care” about the posts via Facebook. And to some degree, I understand those statements. Some things you just need to keep to yourself and may be a little too personal to let everyone know. But obviously those who are posting these cries for attention actually need some genuine attention. When someone posts that they just ran their first mile in five years, I make sure to tell them that someone is proud of them. Even if I barely talk to them, I let them know someone out there is reading and someone cares.

Sometimes rants on social media are just soul’s trying to reach out. Maybe they feel that they have no one else to turn to. Maybe they just need someone to notice what they’ve been going through. Maybe they just want someone to be proud of them. All I know is that if one of my Facebook friends that I barely knew gave me a nice compliment out of the blue, it would make my day. I hope to make their day too.
